About the project
Collaborative ecosystem for ecological transition in rural areas through a sustainable tourism model applied to low traffic railway lines in Europe.
The project aims to reflect on the future of regional railroads and the lost opportunity that their closure represents for achieving the decarbonization of transport in Europe and, above all, for avoiding the isolation of large regions. rural. Naturally, not all regional lines with weak traffic are candidates to be promoted for tourism. A priori, only those whose territories of passage and stopover have some recognizable territorial values would be eligible for the necessary investments for the improvement and adaptation of the service. For On the other hand, the territorial values of a rural region are often unknown or undervalued, which requires a thorough study to determine their cultural, environmental or landscape interest. This requires a thorough study to determine their cultural, environmental or landscape interest. Knowing, valuing and disseminating the values of a territory is not only a matter for the expert work of specialists, but also requires the participation of the local communities, which are the source of the cultural, environmental and landscape interest of the region. the participation of local communities, the source of knowledge of the tangible and intangible values of their territories,
and an essential driver of change dynamics through local education and entrepreneurship. Thus, in this virtuous circle of knowing in order to value, valuing in order to protect, protect to disclose and disclose to know, the involvement of various stakeholders is essential.
This project is born with the intention of shedding light on one of the most pressing challenges of our society today, the transition to decarbonization of transport models, ensuring territorial cohesion and the right to transition towards models of decarbonization of transport, ensuring territorial cohesion and the right of the poorest countries to rural communities to a dignified life. All this through reflection on the essential role of the regional railroad as a catalyst of territorial development dynamics. And considering the local communities, their expectations, their demands and their capacity for entrepreneurship. For this purpose, the Spanish state is defined as a pilot study area, in which we will carry out a inventory of lines with low trafficThe project is to classify them according to the investment required for their revitalization (WP02). On the other hand, it is proposed to elaborate a Interactive atlas to help decision making on the revitalization of lines based on the integration of classic profitability criteria with others related to territorial cohesion, its social fabric and the territorial capital of the lines (WP03). In addition, the realization of a compendium of successful pilot experiences all over Europewith an exhaustive analysis of the factors that explain their success (WP04) and a handbook of governance models (WP04). handbook of governance models
for the valorization of rural territories affected by weak traffic lines (WP05). In addition, the project has a clear vocation for teaching, learning of university students and knowledge transfer to society, so that it carries out the following activities learning activities among the students of the universities involved.
TOUR&RAIL is a project co-funded by the European Union through the 2023 competitive call Erasmus + KA220-HED-Higher Education Cooperation Partnerships.
It has a maximum financing of €400,000 and a duration of 36 months (from October 2023 to September 2026).
In addition, TOUR&RAIL develops some of its activities thanks to the support of EELISAthe European Engineering, Learning, Innovation and Science Alliance, aimed at defining and implementing a common model for the European engineer rooted in society. In particular, from your community HEARwhich aims to explore the social and educational value of Engineering and Architecture in Europe, as a common heritage and as a catalyst of social and territorial processes.

We count on the collaboration of associate members, who are very valuable to us because they help us achieve the project's objectives:
We have worked on an execution plan that allows us to move forward at a good pace while dedicating the necessary time to obtain the best results from each activity.
This project is organized into five work packages, which in turn are composed of activities. Each work package has a leader, and each activity has a coordinator, among all the consortium partners. The leaders and coordinators have been selected for their expertise.
* Our calendar, however, is a living document, which has to be updated from time to time to adapt to the reality of our project.
